Mighty Uke is playing on the Knowledge Network (on Bell TV) October 29 @ 9 pm and Oct 30 @ 12 am.  On the night of the broadcast and for several days later it may also be available on-line at

Once favoured by Hawaiian royalty and Hollywood musicals, the ukulele faded into obscurity with the rise of the rock and roll guitars. But the mighty uke is making a comeback! In this delightful, toe-tapping documentary, we meet fans and musicians from around the world. Among them is BC's own Langley Ukulele Ensemble, a group of young people whose repertoire goes far beyond 'Tiny Bubbles'.

Jude showed us a neat foot shaker that she made from a hollow plastic egg and a clothespin.
Here is a youtube video of how to do that:

Jill also made a couple from old pill bottles. We used "Gorilla Glue" but hot glue would work. White glue is not strong enough I think. We also used "Mung Beans" because they gave the tone we wanted. I suspect any small dried pea or bean would work.
